Title of lecture: Electrodeposition of polyphenols and of nitrogen containing polyphenols 

Vincent Ball got his PhD in Physical Chemistry from the University Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg, 1996.
After a post-doc at the Biozentrum in Basel he got an assistant professor position in Strasbourg. Since that time he is investigating fundamental aspects of surface science implying biomolecules. He got a professor position from the same University in 2005.
V. Ball was an invited reseracher at several institutions: Maw Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz (2004), University of Michigan at Ann Arbor (2007, with a Fullbright -Alsace fellowship), Adolphe Merckle Institute in Fribourg (2015), University of South Australia in Adelaide (2016), Clayton University (2018, with a FASIC fellowship).
He also spend 15 months as a senior researcher at the Henri Tudor Institute in Luxembourg (2011-2012).

Title of lecture:  Mimicking cosmic-dust formation: exotic nanoparticles and vacuum technology

Prof. Jose A. Martin-Gago is director of the ICMM-CSIC (Madrid-Spain), and group leader of the ESISNA group (Structure of nanoscopic systems). The group address interdisciplinary and multi-technique research for understanding the structure and electronic properties of molecules on surfaces and other low-dimensional systems. In the group surface science techniques are complemented with first principles calculations. He performed his doctoral thesis at the E.S.R.F. (Grenoble-Fr, 1992) and was Marie-Curie fellow in the synchrotron LURE (Paris) from 1992 to 1994. In 2013 was awarded with an ERC-synergy grant for the project entitled “Gas and dust from the star to the laboratory. Exploring the Nanocosmos” (funded with 15M€), together with 2 other involved teams (J. Cernicharo and C. Joblin).
He participates in the E.U. “Graphene flagship- WP material science”, studying the chemistry of graphene. He is member of several program review panel boards for European synchrotron radiation facilities, and he was president of the Spanish Vacuum Society (ASEVA). He has co-authored about 200 Science citation index (SCI) publications that collect more than 5000 citations, and is author of some books in nanotechnology.

Nader Ghaffari Khaligh received his Ph.D. in Organic chemistry from the University of Guilan, Iran, in 2013. Since 2015 he works as a researcher in the Nanotechnology & Catalysis Research Center, Universiti Malaya, Malaysia. His publications (more than 150), including papers, reviews, and mini-reviews, are focused on heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysis, sustainable chemistry and energy, synthesis of heterocycles, and multi-task reagents such as Ionic liquids and Functional polymers.

Dr. Nikolai A. Sobolev is currently a Retired Professor at the Department of Physics, University of Aveiro, Portugal. He received his PhD in semiconductor physics from Friedrich Schiller University, Jena, Germany. He is a founding member of the Institute of Nanostructures, Nanomodelling and Nanofabrication (i3N), where he continues to conduct research. He has published more than 200 papers in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings, 7 patents and 4 book chapters as author or co-author. He has been an invited professor and invited scientist at universities in Berlin, Jena, Ulm (Germany), Gdansk (Poland) and Moscow (Russia). Nikolai Sobolev has been the coordinator of several international and national research projects and has chaired or been a member of committees at more than 50 international conferences.

Title of lecture: Can nanotechnology tackle state-of-the-art issues?

Ajeet Kaushik, Fellow-ICS, Ph.D. (http://akaushik3.wixsite.com/nanocare), is working as an assistant professor of Chemistry at the Department of Environmental Engineering of Florida Polytechnic University – USA. He is exploring nano-enabled technologies for health wellness and environmental monitoring, involving efficient sensing and nanomedicine. He is an accomplished scholar (supported by over 250 publications, editorial roles, 10 edited books, 3 patents, and international collaborations) and the recipient of several international awards in support of his credentials. His research interests include green chemistry, electrochemistry, chemical sensors, biosensors, nanomedicine, point-of-care sensing, and personalized sensing. To achieve goals, Dr. Kaushik is focused on cutting-edge research and seeking collaborations.

Dr. Joana Catarina Mendes

Title of lecture: Improving the thermal management of electronic devices with diamond films 

Joana Catarina Mendes graduated in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from the University of Aveiro in 1998. In 2006, she obtained the PhD degree in Solid-State Physics from the University of Aveiro. During her PhD she studied the electrical properties of polycrystalline diamond films. From 2006 to 2012, she was a researcher at the Nanotechnology Research Division in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the same University, where she worked with carbon-based nanostructured material composites and diamond films for tribological applications. Since 2012 Dr. Mendes works as a researcher in the Institute of Telecommunications. Her current research interests include the use of diamond thin films for thermal management of different types of power and optoelectronics devices and the development of novel diamond-based sensors. Dr. Mendes has participated in several national and international research projects, both as Principal Investigator and team member. She has served as a reviewer for international journals (Advanced Functional Materials, physica status solidi (RRL), Advanced Materials, amongst others). She was the chair of IEEE SPI 2023 and is a permanent member of WOCSDICE Steering Committee. She is the author or co-author of more than 50 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and proceedings and 6 book chapters. Accordingly to Scopus, her h-index is 9, with nearly 550 citations in total.

Title of lecture:
Nanofluids for heat transfer enhancement: challenges and opportunities

Mónica S.A. Oliveira scientific activity began in 1995 with the preparatory work leading to the award of a Doctor Degree. The latter was awarded at the University of Glamorgan (South Wales – UK) through a research program funded by Wyman & Gordon Forgings (USA) dealing with air assisted atomised water spray systems used to control cooling rates of high temperature forgings. Further insight has been given to this particular process during a postdoctoral FCT grant fellowship, by developing a predictive model of the process through neural networks.
Currently, she is an Associate Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Aveiro and develops her research activity at TEMA – Centre of Mechanical Technology and Automation. She was the Coordinator of the Platform for the Molds & Plastics Industry till 2019 and, at present, is the Director of the Doctoral Program in Mechanical Engineering of the University of Aveiro.
In the last decade, in her research activity, she has given particular attention to the development and properties characterization of polymeric materials, nanocomposites and nanofluids. It should however stand out that her research intervention and interests lie on both experimental and numeric approaches to tackle issues related with heat transfer, fluid mechanics and materials science.Prof. Dr. Mónica S. Dr. Indrani Coondoo obtained PhD in Applied Physics in 2008 from India´s premier institute, University of Delhi. After working as Research Associate at National Physical Laboratory, India, she joined University of Puerto Rico, USA as a Visiting Researcher. She is a recipient of the prestigious Portuguese FCT-Postdoctoral grant and worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Aveiro, Portugal. Since 2019, she is employed as a Researcher at University of Aveiro.
Her interest lies in lead-free materials including ceramics, thin films, polymers (ferroelectric, piezoelectric, magnetic, multiferroics) for mechanical energy harvesting, electrocaloric, magnetocaloric, magnetoelectric application.

Title of lecture: Composite/hybrid coatings as an innovative way to improve electrodeposited materials

Dr. Natalia Tintaru (Tsyntsaru in publications) area of expertise is in eco-friendly electrodeposition, anodization, nanostructurization, tribology, materials science, alloys, mechanical, and corrosion properties.
She completed her Ph.D. in electrochemistry at the Institute of Applied Physics, R. Moldova in 2007. After her research on termokinetics phenomena during electrodeposition of alloys at the same institute, as a Marie Curie Fellow, she joined the KU Leuven, Belgium in 2010, where she carried out her research on tribological, mechanical, and corrosion properties of Co-W alloys, including anodization of aluminum. This led to the elaboration of multifunctional coatings/materials that could be proposed for versatile applications.
She is the author or co-author of more than 70 papers in peer-reviewed journals. She has been a participant in 17 projects, of which 10 EU/international projects, and 5 of them she was leading.Assoc. Paper-based microfluidic fuel cells fed by alcohols

Dr. Cauê Martins obtained his Ph.D. in Chemistry from UFMS-Brazil (2013), with a period at Universidad Nacional de La Plata – Argentine (2012) and Arizona State University – USA (2013). He conducted postdoc research at Simon Fraser University – Canada (2017-2018). He holds a tenure track position at UFMS-Brazil. He was Visiting Professor at the School of Chemistry at the University of Nottingham (2022). He is a co-founder of the startups Dual Link and fotoGEE. He works in Applied Electrochemistry, developing microfluidic fuel cells, (photo)electrolyzers, and advanced 3D-printed materials. He published 50 peer-reviewed papers, 2 book chapters and deposited 9 patents. Accordingly to Scopus, his h-index is 20, with nearly 950 citations.

He is head of the Brazilian System for H2 at UFMS (SisH2-UFMS) and other funded Projects (~ US$ 1.5 mi).

Title of lecture: Ammonia for decarbonizing our world?

 

Dr. Francisco Loureiro obtained his PhD in 2019 in Engineering of Refining, Petrochemistry and Chemistry, a unique industrially based doctoral programme, in collaboration with Bondalti Chemicals S.A., a Portuguese chemical company, with the special grade of Distinction (Cum Laude). He has published 63 articles and 1 review in SCI journals and 10 book chapters, and with a H-factor of 16. He is an appointed member of the Editorial board of Frontiers in Energy Research (Fuel Cells section) (2020) and Nanomaterials Science & Engineering (2020). He is the PI of several R&D projects (~750 k€). Dr. Francisco Loureiro is currently working as a doctorate researcher in Centre for Mechanical Technology and Automation (TEMA) at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Aveiro. His research interests include solid-state electrochemistry of oxygen-ion and proton ceramic conducting materials for application in chemical synthesis.

Title of lecture: Nanofiber-Based Hydrogels for Drug Delivery Systems

 

Serbülent Türk graduated from Trakya University Department of Chemistry and received his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Sakarya University. He works as a researcher at the Biomedical, Magnetic, and Semiconductor Materials Application and Research Center (BIMAS-RC). He also continues his research activities in Biomaterials, Energy, Photocatalysis, Enzyme Technology, Nano and Advanced Materials, Additive Manufacturing, Environmental Applications, and Sustainability Research and Development Group (BIOEℕAMS).

He has co-authored articles, book chapters, national patent publications, and projects focused mainly on biomaterials, hydrogels, and solar cells. His h-index is 8 (Scopus), and he has served as a reviewer (more than 100) for international peer-reviewed journals. He is also currently working as the coordinator at Biomedical Engineering Master’s Program. His current research interests include fiber-containing biomaterials and hydrogel-containing solar cells.  Title of lecture: “Unveiling Secrets in Biofluids: Optical Spectroscopy and Machine Learning for Disease Diagnosis

Cicero Cena is a physicist Professor with a Ph.D. in Materials Science. Currently, his research is dedicated to the development of new methodologies for disease diagnosis by using molecular spectroscopy and machine learning algorithms. He dedication to research has been recognized with a level 2 research productivity grant from CNPq (Brazil). From 2021 to 2023, he was honored to serve as the Regional Secretary of SBPC (Brazilian Society for the Advancement of Science). Additionally, he took on the coordinator role for the Postgraduate Program in Materials Science from 2019 to 2022.
Prof. Dr. Cicero Cena have authored 44 publications with a median Impact Factor of 3.171, an H-index of 10, and 6 patent applications.As an educator, Prof. Dr. Cicero Cena  have supervised students in different formation levels and dedicated some time to produce Online basic physics and photodiagnosis courses.  Title of lecture: Contribution of nanoscale calorimetry to material characterization

After a PhD thesis in Materials Physics obtained at the University of Rouen in 2002, Allisson Saiter-Fourcin was appointed assistant professor at this University in 2003. She obtained her Accreditation to Drive Research in 2012 and her position as Full Professor at the University of Rouen in 2017. She carries out her research activity within the GPM, UMR CNRS 6634, and is head of the DSP (Disordered Systems and Polymers) department.

Since 20 years, her research activities have focused on the study and understanding of relaxation phenomena in polymers (and glass-forming liquids in general), and their evolution as a function of time (or frequency) and of the temperature. Calorimetry is a key tool in her research activity: Differential Calorimetric Analysis (DSC), Modulated Temperature DSC (MT-DSC), Fast Scanning Calorimetry (FSC).

Title of lecture: Innovation in Chemical and Electrochemical Treatment and Recovery of Precious Metals
Prof. Dr. Cesiulis’ area of expertise is applied electrochemistry and thermodynamics. He works in fields of metals and alloys electrodeposition, enforced corrosion, photoelectrochemistry of oxides and sulphides, metals leaching in and recovery from the environmentally friendly solutions. He developed a concept for the induced co-deposition of tungsten and molybdenum alloys with iron group metals. He proposed to use metals foams for electrowinning processes.
He is author or co-author of 76 papers in peer-reviewed journals; these papers are cited more than 1500 times. He developed an environmentally friendly technological chain for precious metals recovery from electric and electronic waste. He participates in equipment design process for this technology.
He has been the supervisor of 17 national and international research projects. He established scientific collaboration with more than 10 countries. He gave a number of invited lectures in Europe and US.
He is director of Joint Stock Company Elektronikos Perdirbimo Technologijos (Electronics Treatment Technologies).

Title of lecture: Behind the enhanced electrical performance of Flash sintered potassium sodium niobate ceramics
Dr. Oleksandr Tkach is an Assistant Researcher of the University of Aveiro and CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials, a premier Materials Science institution in Portugal. He graduated in Microelectronics and Semiconductor Devices by the National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”. Dr. Tkach got Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Aveiro that was followed by postdoctoral studies at University of Porto, Portugal, and University of Mainz, Germany.
Present research interests of Dr. Tkach include the development of giant permittivity dielectric oxides for energy storage; thermoelectric and piezoelecric oxide materials and composites for energy harvesting technologies; nanostructured magneto electrics for sensor and electronic applications; and alternative energy efficient concepts for electrically assisted ceramic sintering. He has published over 100 articles in reputed journals as well as 8 book chapters, and edited a book, serving also as an editorial board member of several journals.Dr. Tkach is an editor of the special issue Ceramics and Nanostructures for Energy Harvesting and Storage, Volume II in Nanomaterials (IF=5.3).
