Since that time he is investigating fundamental aspects of surface science implying biomolecules. He got a professor position from the same University in 2005.<br \/>\nV. Martin-Gago is director of the ICMM-CSIC (Madrid-Spain), and group leader of the ESISNA group (Structure of nanoscopic systems). The group address interdisciplinary and multi-technique research for understanding the structure and electronic properties of molecules on surfaces and other low-dimensional systems. In the group surface science techniques are complemented with first principles calculations. He performed his doctoral thesis at the E.S.R.F. (Grenoble-Fr, 1992) and was Marie-Curie fellow in the synchrotron LURE (Paris) from 1992 to 1994. In 2013 was awarded with an ERC-synergy grant for the project entitled \u201cGas and dust from the star to the laboratory. Exploring the Nanocosmos\u201d (funded with 15M\u20ac), together with 2 other involved teams (J. Cernicharo and C. Joblin).<br \/>\nHe participates in the E.U. \u201cGraphene flagship- WP material science\u201d, studying the chemistry of graphene. He is member of several program review panel boards for European synchrotron radiation facilities, and he was president of the Spanish Vacuum Society (ASEVA). Sobolev is currently a Retired Professor at the Department of Physics, University of Aveiro, Portugal. He received his PhD in semiconductor physics from Friedrich Schiller University, Jena, Germany. He is a founding member of the Institute of Nanostructures, Nanomodelling and Nanofabrication (i3N), where he continues to conduct research. He has published more than 200 papers in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings, 7 patents and 4 book chapters as author or co-author. He has been an invited professor and invited scientist at universities in Berlin, Jena, Ulm (Germany), Gdansk (Poland) and Moscow (Russia). In 2006, she obtained the PhD degree in Solid-State Physics from the University of Aveiro. During her PhD she studied the electrical properties of polycrystalline diamond films. From 2006 to 2012, she was a researcher at the Nanotechnology Research Division in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the same University, where she worked with carbon-based nanostructured material composites and diamond films for tribological applications. Since 2012 Dr. Mendes works as a researcher in the Institute of Telecommunications. Her current research interests include the use of diamond thin films for thermal management of different types of power and optoelectronics devices and the development of novel diamond-based sensors. Dr. Mendes has participated in several national and international research projects, both as Principal Investigator and team member. She has served as a reviewer for international journals (Advanced Functional Materials, physica status solidi (RRL), Advanced Materials, amongst others). She was the chair of IEEE SPI 2023 and is a permanent member of WOCSDICE Steering Committee. She is the author or co-author of more than 50 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and proceedings and 6 book chapters.
